Description:

Italo Scanga (1932- 2001 Italy) Abstract Hand Painted Plaster Vase, circa 1980's. Signed “I.S.” near base. Measures 13x8". Overall excellent condition. Scanga, a world-renowned artist and art professor, was a perennial artist in residence at Pilchuck and close friend of Chihuly, who invited him to the school in 1973. He returned nearly every year until his death. Scanga was celebrated throughout the art world for his ebullient constructions and his fluency across the spectrum of art media whether glass, ceramic, canvas, print or found objects. Today, his foundation continues to keep his accomplishments alive and there is a museum in his native Calabria, Italy. Artist's website: italoscanga.org
