Having grown up in a family dedicated to the tradition of Italian glassworking, Diaz de Santillana and his equally famous sister Laura (1955 – 2019) spent their adult lives honing a craft that was carried on through multiple generations of glass makers in their family. Their grandfather, Paolo Venini, and their father, Ludovico Diaz de Santillana, shaped and carried on the Venini Glasswork Company on Murano. Based in Venice, Alessandro (and his sister) spent considerable time in the Pacific Northwest studio glass community. The Tacoma Museum of Glass presented their work in a major exhibition, “Scapes,” in 2012, with an accompanying book published by UW Press. Website: http://www.desantillana.com/en
