Antique Korean Munjado character paintings. Joseon Dynasty, 19th century. Painted depictions of two Chinese characters of Confucian ideals, with accompanying illustrations embellishing each; handwritten text above at upper corners. Painted in ink and colors on paper, each painting attached to paper backings. Originally part of a screen. With many worn and missing areas; character in blue wax pigment written on one painting. Each measure 23" x 13" approx.
