Description:

Torii Kotondo (1900 - 1976 Japan) "Kamisuki / Combing the Hair" Woodblock Print. Vertical Oban, 18 1/4" x 11 3/4" including margins. Showa period, dated 1929. Signed "Kotondo saku" along with "Kotondo" seal. Published by Kawaguchi; seal at lower right. Lower left bears seal of carver Ito and printer Komatsu. A fantastic image of a sculpted beauty bathing; her lines contoured by gentle relief work in the paper. The paper in very good structural condition, however with toning and slight discoloration. Print pasted onto rice paper and wood panel. 21" x 15" overall with panel.
