Description:

Twelve (12) original 1768 Thomas Worlidge (1700-1766, English) engravings from A Select Collection of Drawings from Curious Antique Gems, each a finely executed drypoint reproduction of ancient carved gems sourced from prominent 18thcentury British collections. Printed on period 10”H × 7”W sheets with strong plate impressions, the engravings depict a range of classical subjects—including Ceres, Minerva, Apollo, Antinous, Centaurs, and various animal intaglios—with image sizes generally ranging from approximately 2½–4 inches in height and 2?–4 inches in width, consistent with the original 1768 publication’s plate dimensions. Collectively, the group represents a cohesive and highly desirable selection from Worlidge’s celebrated 182plate compendium. All impressions are strong, with deeply struck platemarks indicative of early pulls, and the group remains in generally good condition with expected age-related wear and scattered foxing.
