Description:

Three photographs of the SS Yucatan in the Bering Sea ice with passengers at the rails; two photos showing figures descending / ascending on rope ladders. SS Yucatan (built 1890); chartered to U.S. Army as transport (1898–1906); during Spanish–American War; carried Theodore Roosevelt’s "Rough Riders" to Cuba; sold to Northwestern Steamship Co., 1906, for operation between Seattle and Alaska; scrapped 1929. Photos appear in very good condition; not examined out of original mat and wood frame. Mat opening 2 7/8" x 4 7/8" approx. Frame 6 3/4" x 16 7/8".
