Vintage ceremonial mask. Gourd with applied mud and decorated with shells, faux boar teeth, cassowary feathers, and natural pigment paint. Woven fiber support backing and attachments to bamboo pole. Good condition with minor age wear and losses with three foam glue areas of later repair. Circa early to mid 20th C. Purchased in 1969 from Jean-Jacques Laurent, South Seas Traders, based in Tahiti. mask 22" x 9.5" approx.; 42" bamboo pole
