Description:

Late 18th or early 19th century oil on canvas portrait of Marvil Rathbone (Connecticut. 1759-1822). Rathbone is the daughter of John Rathbone and Content Brown. She is pictured seated in highback chair, wearing glasses, lace cap, and holding an open book. Appears in very good professionally restored condition with replacement stretchers and possible relining; Kennedy Galleries, Inc., NY, label to the reverse. No apparent signature. Appears to be original gilded gesso on wood frame (expected small losses, possible overpaint, patina, etc.). Canvas 30.5" x 25.5". Frame 338.75" x 33.75".
