Oil portrait on canvas with no apparent signature. Brass plaque to bottom of frame engraved "Thomas Patten, Jr." and "John Russell R.A. 1745-1806". Old typewritten label to stretcher "Thos. Patten Junr, second son of thos Patten in the County Palatine of Lancashire by Dorothea his wife, second daughter and coheir of Peter Bold, of Bold in ye county..Born Feb. 22nd 1770. Constituted and appointed Lieut. Colonel of the 4th. Batt. of Lancashire supplymentary Militia May 21 1798.". Partial label to cardboard backing with typewritten "Thomas" to subject line and typewritten "John Russell" to artisit line. Appears cleaned and restored with gloss varnish, etc. No obvious repairs, etc. Frame in good condition; age cracking to plaster, small old losses, small old repairs, etc. Small break lower right corner with 4 pieces included. Canvas 30" x 25". Frame 38.25" x 33.25" approx.
