Description:

Japanese Meiji Porcelain "Scroll Painting" Charger. Of flared and slightly raised lobed form, with painted scroll painting at center in enamels, with "colophons" at both sides in clerical and running scripts over a spray of flowers in underglaze blue. Body with elongated qilin beats circumnabulating rim. Dated to 1881 at underside. Small oyster chip by rim at reverse; some losses to gilding. Measures 14.5" across.
