Hand-painted and lettered book of Staffordshire wildflowers created by noted miniaturist Elizabeth Walker in 1847. Contains 16 original watercolors of wildflowers, each accompanied by a facing poem in flowery calligraphy. Bound in leather with extensive gilt stamped designs and gilded page edges. Intricate figures and raised bands accompany the title on the spine. Walker was born Elizabeth Reynolds in London, daughter of engraver Samuel William Reynolds. In 1829, she married Scottish engraver William Walker (1791–1867). She exhibited at the Royal Academy 1818–50, was appointed miniature painter to William IV in 1830, and executed portraits of five Prime Ministers, Some wear to front cover. evidence of limited water damage to back exterior board only. 10" x 8.5"
