Description:

Chinese embroidered silk xiape / woman's court vest. Late 19th / early 20th century. The front embroidered with mirrored five-claw dragons over waves and band of auspicious symbols with rank birds in flight among clouds, the reverse with imperial dragon with rank birds, bat and peonies, all in vivid colors over indigo-dyed silk ground. Eight-color hanging tassels below open latticework. Blue lining to interior. Dragons outlined in metallic-wrap couched thread; some loose to dragons at front. Some expected spots of wear/discoloration to interior liner. Vest in very good condition overall. From top to bottom of tassels 37"; 20" across at widest point approx.
