Large hanging scroll attributed to Tani Buncho (1763 - 1840 Japan) in colors on silk. Depiction of the gathering at the lanting pavilion with Wang Xizhi seated at a table with a servant and four scholars, all within a pavilion set on pilings over a stream winding past willows and small groups of scholars seated at its banks drinking and composing poetry, while two servants on a bridge place cups on lotus leaves to float past the men. Signed and with one seal of the artist. In very good condition. Image 55x28"; 102x40.5" overall with mountings approx. With inscription to label strip by Inose Tonei. Includes box with inscriptions by Nishida Shunko and Takamori Saigan, dated 1887 and 1890, respectively. Includes cloth sleeve.
