Albert Bloch (1882-1961 Kansas) "Pierrot" Pastel Drawing, 1908. Pastel on heavy cardboard. Drawing used as the cover of Reedy's Mirror Magazine, Thursday March 5, 1908. A rare drawing by the only American artist associated with Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider) depicting commedia dell'arte character Pierrot, the sad clown, playing a flute. Inscribed "To Mrs Adele M. Ballard with the best of wishes Albert Bloch April- 1908" at lower left corner. Painting comes with handwritten letter to Mrs Ballard of Seattle, Washington on Albert Bloch letterhead dated May 31, 1908. Letter includes 5 pages of correspondence and pen drawing of man smoking a pipe. Artwork measures 20x8.5". Framed with overall dimensions of 28.5x17". Loose in frame, some wear at corners, overall great condition.
