Large 1909 photograph of musher A.A. "Scotty" Allan (1867-1941) and his 8 dog sled team. Hand written in ink "WINNERS, SECOND ANNUAL ALL-ALASKA SWEEPSTAKES, NOME, ALASKA, A. A. ALLAN, DRIVER" along bottom edge. In negative "COPYRIGHT BB DOBBS 1909" mark lower right. The All Alaska Sweepstakes was an annual dog-sled 408 mile race held (1908-1917) in Alaska during April. Mushers traveled from Nome to Candle, traveling along the Bering Strait, and then returned to Nome. Appears in excellent condition; some normal light age toning, etc. Original oak frame. 14" x 32.25".
