First modern map of Japan printed in the Western world, based upon information obtained by the German physician and traveler Philipp Franz von Siebold (1796-1866). Inset maps of "Jezo" (upper left) and "De Baai van Nagasaki" (lower right). Printed in black ink with blue outlines. Segmented and laid on linen as issued. Appears in very good condition; not examined out of original German mahogany veneer frame (maker label to reverse). 26.5" x 33.25".
